OTS 126: It's An Unpopularity Contest (w/ Quebra Nos)
Our friend and special guest Quebra Nos joins us to air some unpopular opinions. We debate whether teachers matter, if capoeira should have even more subdivisions, whose fault it is when you don't play at the batizado, and whether Bimba's sequences are still relevant.

Azul and Bonzinho are opening a studio! Their studio in Parker, CO opens in June 2022. We talk about their hopes and dreams, their lack of affiliation, whether their students will wear cords, their controversial motto, and what the heck is a ronin anyhow. www.ronincapoeira.com
OTS Episode 123: Fairness is (NOT) A Dirty Word In Capoeira - How to watch a roda
Переглядів 482 роки тому
How To Watch A Roda returns. A dense game that seems to have just about everything. Attacks, counterattacks, playfulness, malicia, fairness, and even a little dash of positive gender dynamics. Help us answer the question all of capoeira youtube is asking: what's her name? See the video here: ua-cam.com/video/h0OfP6wqeLU/v-deo.html
Only The Strongest Podcast Episode 122: Old Capoeiristas Yell At Cloud
Переглядів 482 роки тому
To keep the universe in balance, we're complimenting our previous episode about beginners with one about creaky knees and incontinence. We ponder the idea of aging gracefully in capoeira, and try to grow out of the desire to look cool. It's gotta happen sometime, and that time is when Azul waves bye-bye to ponte forever.

Only The Strongest Podcast 120: A Rollercoaster of Joy, Despair, & Legal Problems in an Intro Class
Переглядів 932 роки тому
Today we run through an intro workshop that Varal taught to a group of bright-eyed, enthusiastic college kids and how it made him grumpy. Turns out having no instruments is cool, but bloody injuries aren't. Luckily college kids have no legal framework and they never even thought to sue. Plus, a quick PSA to say that farting in front of your partner can save you a trip to the hospital (seriously...

It's really inspiring see you train and play so well especially after having life changing stuff like having kids. That's so cool

    Hey guys Aranha here from Capoeira batuqui under Mester Xingu. Started in '98. Not ranked very high in capo cause I was doing other styles while doing capo. Took a break from class just maintained until a few years back, under Mestre Xingu. Been working on unlocking moves I had problems with 20 + years ago. It's been fun. My upper body is stronger now then before and my spine is way more flexible. Not really feeling the age thing. I was always a kicker and it's been great to put that on hold and focus on other aspects of the capo game like upside-down stuff, strength stuff and most importantly the music. Anyhow just wanted to share an old guy's story, who feels better now doing capo 20 + years later...o and Azula...you kill it at capo🤙 Really enjoy your vids! Thank you for all the help 🙏

    The discord and displeasure experienced by instructors etc. Honestly from a sociological angle is largely from the maladaptive appropriation of a weapon that its sole conception, was to fight white supremacy/ racism in form of the trans-atlantic slave trade/ plantation colonial wars, but its intended heirs aren't allowed it's TRUE history nor usage of it, Or to put it comparatively, its akin to whites now having to fight the fed/local government's for thier 2A birthright established for them by thier forefathers to protect them from the gov. Etc. But now... the 2A is for "everybody" and used all dynamically for wtf ever in movies or for "defense" but yet the lines of application are blurred. Make sense? Good podcast.

    Interesting...at 4:20...that pattern you're playing (tone, tone, tone, slap) is the opposite of playing the most simple tumbador ("bottom") part on rumba guaguanco (bass, bass, bass, tone).

      Hey, sorey for the late reply, how's practice coming along? Best advice is to do it, a lot, and listen for the right sound. Took me maybe 3 or 4 months to really get a consistent or solid slap.

    looks great but iam not flexibal enough for a high bridge because of a twisted spine, i can do a medium bridge from the ground but not a transition from the leaning back position, it would throw me to the ground, so can i still do it?

    • @RoninCapoeira
      @RoninCapoeira 2 роки тому

      Yes but you would have to take a different approach. I recommend the style where you jump around the side of one hand and slowly try to go higher and more over the top in the jump. Some other macaco videos teach this way. You'll need a confident/strong jump to accommodate the lack of flexibility. Good luck!

    • @Georgeos777
      @Georgeos777 2 роки тому

      @@RoninCapoeira i saw one now in which the guy simply go over the one arm and never use the second to a bridge like move, i think this will go, strenght for me is not the problem, itsmore the flexibility.
